A man was shot early Sunday in north Minneapolis and later died during surgery, authorities said.

According to Minneapolis police:

Officers responded to a report of a shooting just after midnight.

When they arrived at the scene in the 3400 block of Fremont Av. N., they found a man lying on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound.

He was taken to North Memorial Medical Center, where he died during surgery at 6 a.m.

His identity has not yet been released.

It was not a random incident, police said. Preliminary information indicates the victim and another man had gotten into an argument. The suspect shot the victim, then fled the scene. The men knew each other.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 612-692-TIPS.
