A 36-year-old man died Tuesday morning when he crashed into the back of a semitrailer truck that had stopped on a northwestern Minnesota highway to make a left turn, the State Patrol said.

Jason Nelson, of Neilsville, Minn., was driving north on Hwy. 75 when he struck the rear of a northbound semi that was attempting to turn left onto SW 410th Street in Hubbard Township in Polk County, the patrol said.

Nelson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, which was reported at 6:52 a.m.

The truck driver, identified by the patrol as Dalton Fredrickson, 21, of Thief River Falls, was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Alcohol did not appear to play a role in the crash. Roads were dry at the time of the crash, the patrol said.
