A fight in a well-traveled Little Canada street ended with one man intentionally and fatally pushing another into the path of an oncoming car, authorities said Thursday.

Ramsey County sheriff's deputies quickly arrested the suspect Wednesday night, and he remained jailed on suspicion of murder, said Sheriff's Office spokesman John Eastham.

The identity of the man who was struck on the northbound side of the 2400 block of Rice Street about 9:10 p.m. had yet to be released Thursday evening. Authorities also had yet to disclose what prompted the fight that led to the man's death.

The suspect is 41 and lives in a mobile home park in that block of Rice Street, near County Road B2. He has not been charged.

"One man pushed the other intentionally in front of an oncoming car," Eastham said. The victim was taken to a hospital nearby and died, he added.

Eastham said the State Patrol is in charge of reconstructing the impact of the car hitting the man, while the Sheriff's Office is handling the overall investigation.
