A Hennepin County District Court jury took about five hours Thursday to return a guilty verdict against a Minneapolis man in the 2012 murder of Parrish Gray as he rode in a car.
The jury convicted Jayline Dubose, 20, of second-degree murder. He will be sentenced Aug. 26. County Attorney Mike Freeman said prosecutors will seek the maximum 15 years in prison allowed under Minnesota sentencing guidelines.
According to the criminal complaint and testimony in the trial, Gray, 25, was a passenger in a car driving through north Minneapolis in the early evening of June 5, 2012. The driver told police that at the intersection of 18th and Irving Avenues N., a young man in shorts fired shots at the car.
Witnesses identified Dubose as the shooter. Police also found a gun believed to have been used in the shooting.
After the shooting, Dubose fled to Chicago, where he was arrested 15 months later.
