A Carver County man is jailed on $1 million bail after allegedly shooting at his neighbor and his 11-year-old son as they rode in a tractor last week, authorities said Thursday.
The 40-year-old neighbor suffered cuts to his neck when he was struck by flying glass from the tractor's shattered front and back windows, according to the Carver County Sheriff's Office. The boy was not hurt.
Kenneth A. Walsh, 51, has been charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder and is being held in the Carver County jail. He will appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
He's accused of firing several gunshots at his neighbor's tractor about 9 p.m. on May 23 from his home on Sunset Road in Camden Township.
The tractor driver called 911 to report the shooting. He told deputies that although he didn't see the shooter, he believed it was Walsh.
The two men don't have a history of conflict, and the Sheriff's Office did not comment on a possible motive.
Deputies established a perimeter around Walsh's residence and arrested Walsh when he came outside. He admitted that he was angry with the neighbor and that he had used a scoped rifle and "could see the victim in the scope cross hairs," authorities said. The shots were fired from inside his house.
Deputies later searched Walsh's home and seized an undisclosed number of rifles and shotguns. They also noted holes in a window screen consistent with bullet holes.
