A woman was shot and killed Friday evening on St. Paul's East Side, and a man with whom she had a relationship was arrested, police said.

Police were called about 5:45 p.m. about a reported shooting on the 1900 block of E. Cottage Avenue, a residential area in the Southern Hayden Heights neighborhood.

They entered a home and found a woman inside with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Several potential witnesses to the shooting were brought into police headquarters for questioning, according to authorities. One of those, a man, was later arrested.

Officials believe the woman and man lived in the home and were in a relationship, St. Paul police spokesman Sgt. Mike Ernster said.

Police continue to investigate. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will release the victim's name and cause of death.
