An 80-year-old Marine on St. Croix man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 95 just outside of Scandia.

According to the State Patrol, Kenneth R. Ostlund drove his van into the path of a northbound pickup at the intersection of 220th Street N. and Hwy. 95 and was hit broadside.

Both vehicles went into the ditch, and Ostlund's van caught fire.

Rescue workers were unable to extricate him.

The collision occurred about 11:30 a.m. Hwy. 95 was closed temporarily between Hwy. 97 and 240th Street N., a stretch of about 2 miles.

The driver of the pickup truck, Forrest Burton, 72, of Chisago City, had no apparent injuries, the patrol reported.
