Mahtomedi School District faculty members spend much of their time in the classroom imparting knowledge and training aspiring musicians. Sunday, they get to play.
Kathy Schwister, Ginny Gadbois Green, Brett Smith, Julie Conzemius, Linda Liziolek, Marilyn Wash, Michael Moeller and Rob Pontious will perform an eclectic mix of numbers ranging from the Jackson 5's "ABC" and two Beatles songs arranged for the King Singers to an original African Ghanaian drum and vocal piece by local drumming master Sowah Mensah.
A number of adjunct faculty members -- those who teach through the district's community education program -- also will perform during the concert, which will feature soloists, duets and ensembles.
The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Chautauqua Fine Arts Center, 8000 N. 75th St. It is part of the 2011-12 Wildwood Artists Series. It also is a fundraiser for the Kelly Spaulding Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a Mahtomedi High School senior who plans to pursue a degree in one of the fine arts. Some proceeds also will go to support music programs in District 832.
Tickets are $14 for adults, $10 for ages 62 and older and $7 for students. For more information, call 651-269-9888.
