A Black-billed Magpie was reported Friday, March 25, at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge by Betsy Beneke visitor services manager. The bird has been recorded on the refuge twice before, once in 1921 and again in 1972. Normal range for this species in Minnesota is the far northwestern corner of the state, with a few birds seen in the Sax-Zim area northwest of Duluth, and a few more in Aitkin County. Sherburne NWR is in Sherburne County, west of Highway 169 near Zimmerman. Ms. Beneke took the photo.
