'The Magic Flute'

Opens Saturday: Minnesota Opera is bringing back this 2014 box-office champion. A revelatory production by Komische Oper Berlin and the British theater group 1927, this Mozart classic smashed ticket records at the Ordway. The concept uses silent-movie imagery and characterizations to animate the telling. It has been praised as visually arresting and technically innovative. Much of the cast returns from the celebrated 2014 production, including French tenor Julien Behr, soprano Christie Conover (the breakout star of the original) and local favorite Andrew Wilkowske. Jeni Houser's Queen of the Night is new to the cast. Music director Michael Christie conducts the opera's orchestra. (7:30 p.m. Sat., 2 p.m. next Sun. $25-$200. Ends Nov. 22. Ordway Center, 5th and Washington Sts., St. Paul. 612-333-6669, mnopera.org.)
