Stomping of Mercury by Lynx among most lopsided playoff wins ever

Only two teams -- Los Angeles and defunct Cleveland -- have won a playoffs game by a bigger margin than the Lynx did Thursday.

September 23, 2011 at 6:10PM

The Lynx's lopsided 28-point victory over Phoenix on Thursday was the third largest point spread in playoffs history -- and just a three-pointer away from tying the 10-year-old record.

Los Angeles beat Sacramento by 31 points on August 27, 2001. The Sparks won 93-62.

The score of the Lynx game was remarkably close to that. The Lynx beat the Mercury 95-67 at the Target Center in the first game of their Western Conference finals.

Six times in the 15-year history of the WNBA teams have won by 28 points, including Phoenix twice. Now the Lynx join that stompers' club.

The biggest routs in the WNBA playoffs:

31 -- Los Angeles (93) vs. Sacramento (62), August 27, 2001
29 -- Cleveland (72) vs. Orlando (43), August 15, 2000
28 -- Minnesota (95) vs. Phoenix (67), September 22, 2011
