The Minnesota Department of Transportation canceled Wednesday night's cleaning of the Lowry Hill Tunnel because of the rainy weather.

MnDOT crews were scheduled to sweep away the dirt and grime that has collected inside the Lowry Hill Tunnel over the past six months. Crews will also were to replace light bulbs, air filters and other routine maintenance work.

To do that, both directions of I-94 in downtown Minneapolis needed to close, with traffic detoured via the Hennepin/Lyndale Avenue exits. Work Thursday was scheduled from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Af first, that was the time for Wednesday's work, too, which could have had a big impact on traffic since the Wild's home playoff game against Dallas began at 8:30 p.m. Later, MnDOT pushed it back two hours before the cancellation was announced.
