Loss to Sioux Falls puts Saints at .500 midseason

The Sioux Falls Canaries ended the first half of the American Association schedule in style on Sunday, tying a league record with six home runs in a 7-4 victory over the St. Paul Saints in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Canaries, who matched the record set by Sioux City (against the Saints on June 22, 2006), got two homers from Grant Richardson.

The Saints got homers from Heath Keel, who was 4-for-4, and from Kevin Sullivan.

The Saints finished the first half at .500, with a 24-24 record. The teams will open the second half of the season at Midway Stadium on Tuesday.

Thunder loses in Puerto Rico The Puerto Rico Islanders beat the Thunder 3-1 at Juan Ramon Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Sunday. The loss extended the Thunder's streak to seven (0-4-3).

Etc. • Mr La Bubba, owned by Jeremy Newton, Mike Grisham and Art Wilmes, won the $41,000 Grade III Canterbury Park Quarter Horse Derby on Sunday.
