Here is an update on the positions of the Common Loons radio tagged last summer in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan so their migration movements could be followed.

Two Minnesota loons were tagged. One was found dead on Green Bay in Wisconsin in October. The second bird arrived on the Gulf of Mexico off Florida on Dec. 6. It presently is on the Gulf near St. Petersburg.

Seven Wisconsin loons were tagged. Four of them arrived on the Gulf of Mexico between Nov. 28 and Dec. 3. Those birds presently are on the Gulf along the Florida coast. One bird arrived off shore Virginia on Nov. 29. It has not been heard from since. One bird was last heard from on Oct. 22 from a Lake Michigan location. Its situation is unknown; radio problems might exist. The final Wisconsin bird was on a lake in Indiana as of Dec. 11.

The lone Michigan bird arrived in Albermarle Sound, Virginia, on Nov. 22, and was there as of Dec. 12.
