Looking Back at the New England Hurricane of 1938

Today is the 71st anniversary of the great New England Hurricane of 1938.The hurricane, which struck Long Island and New England without warning, led tothe deaths of 682 people. The hurricane raced northward toward New England atforward speeds as high as 58 mph. Highest sustained winds were 121 mph withgusts as high as 186 mph. A powerful storm surge from the hurricane caused amassive flood in the city of Providence, R.I.
