Look Whooo's No. 1!

Owl City has the first Minnesota-bred No. 1 single in the country in whooo knows how long (OK, enough with the "whooo's").

Congrats to Owatonna's Adam Young, a k a Owl City, who has the No. 1 song in the country right now with "Fireflies." I can't think of the last time a single by a Minnesota artist went to No. 1 on Bilboard's Hot 100 chart -- probably Next's "Too Close" in 1998. In this case, it was buoyed there largely by digital downloads, but Top 40 stations are really starting to spin the song now, too (hence KDWB booking Young and his band to play its Jingle Ball). The whole album "Ocean Eyes" is doing well, too, rising to No. 8 on the album chart. What an exclamation point on Young's amazing story.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
