ST. PAUL, Minn. - A longtime Democratic state senator from Brooklyn Park has stopped cancer treatment and is in hospice care.

The Senate DFL Caucus said Friday that Sen. Linda Scheid (shyde) is spending time with family and friends in home hospice care.

Scheid has been fighting ovarian cancer since 2005. A release from her caucus says Scheid decided to stop chemotherapy after the treatments stopped being effective early last month.

Scheid has served in the Minnesota Legislature for 34 years, the first two decades in the House and the past 14 years in the Senate.

The 68-year-old teacher is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee.
