Details still coming in, but based on everything I can tell, KARE news director Tom Lindner is out of his position. This afternoon, he tweeted: Change has come my way. KARE today, gone tomorrow. Time to grow anew.

Calls to Lindner at KARE were redirected to his boss. We're still waiting to hear from him.

Lindner has held the position since 1996 and the station has consistently been the most watched for news.

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with KARE general manager John Remes. He says the decision for Lindner's departure was made in house and did not come from Gannett's corporate headquarters. He praised Lindner saying that his work at KARE over 19 years "compares to any person's accomplishments at any station in the country." He would not go into details on why Lindner was leaving, but did say that the two had been talking about it for a while.

KARE's managing editor Jane Helmke will serve as interim news director. Remes said he doesn't have a timeline as to when he'll name a replacement, but he said he plans to move "swiftly and smartly."
