Two community medical clinics in Minneapolis have received $500,000 to expand health care for uninsured and underserved residents. The grants were announced Wednesday by the GE Foundation, an arm of the General Electric Co., as part of its GE Developing Health program.
Neighborhood HealthSource/Fremont Clinic and the Southside Medical Clinic will receive $250,000 apiece over two years, along with a commitment from the company's employee volunteer program. Volunteers will focus on business process improvements and best-practice management techniques, according to a statement from the foundation.
Fremont Clinic and Southside Medical Clinic are part of Minnesota's network of 17 federally-qualified Community Health Centers, which operate 70 separate clinics and served about 190,000 patients last year.
The General Electric Co. is a major manufacturer of medical devices and health care equipment. Developing Health is a philanthropic initiative of the company's foundation that started in New York in 2009 and has since expanded to 37 cities.
