A gorgeous, happy book by Wayzata writer Joyce Sidman and illustrator Pamela Zagarenski was named a Caldecott honor book this morning in Boston.

And Phil Hoose, who lived in St. Paul for a couple of years before decamping for even colder places (Vermont), was honored twice for his book "Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice." His biography of the teenager who refused to give up her seat to a white woman back in 1955 (nine months before Rosa Parks did the same) won a National Book Award in November. This morning, it was named a Newbery Honor Book as well as a Sibert Honor Book (for children's non-fiction).

And "Bad News for Outlaws," published by Carolrhoda Books of Minneapolis, won the Coretta Scott King Book Award.

And Hoose's book was reviewed this morning in the Star Tribune. You can read that review here.
