Local anchor hurt in bike accident

UPDATE: Randy Shaver the recently named co-anchor of KARE's evening news programs, broke his left arm and scraped his face Tuesday morning in a bike accident that will keep him off the air until at least next week,

Shaver said the accident occurred during his morning exercise regime."I usually run about three-and-a-half miles every day, but today I decided to jump on a bike instead," he said.

According to the anchor, he was rounding a corner in a wooded area near his home when he saw a teenage boy standing beside his own bicycle.

"I had nowhere to go," Shaver said. "I was either going to run him over or slam on the brakes."

Shaver chose the latter. He flew over the handlebars, landing hard on his face.

"The first thing I said to the kid was, 'How's my face?'" Shaver said. "He said, 'Sir, it's bleeding.'"

Shaver said the swelling and the fact that he can't even put on his own tie right now will preclude him from doing the news for the rest of the week and, perhaps, beyond.
