Live mealworms are very popular at our feeder

An experiment, to see how it works. It works well.

It took the chickadees in our yard about half a day to catch on to the mealworms set out near our seed feeders. The nuthatches took a bit longer. Once known, though, mealworms were very popular. A dozen would disappear in minutes. These are live worms, bought 500 to the container, $8.95 at our local wild bird store. I'm going to put the store's container in my home-made worm feeder. There are about 400 worms left, buried in the packing sawdust. I want to see if the birds will dig for worms. This nuthatch is about to slam the worm onto the deck railing, to kill it, I imagine
