Vikings coach Brad Childress told Sirius NFL Radio on Tuesday that Ray Edwards spent significant time at Winter Park on the players' day off to get treatment on his injured right knee and the defensive end later went on KFAN Radio and briefly talked about how he was feeling.
But Childress and Edwards made no attempt to provide any insight on if Edwards will play Sunday against New Orleans in the NFC Championship Game. In their defense, they simply might not know at this point. Even if they do know, they probably will be more than happy to keep the Saints guessing.
Edwards, of course, suffered a sprained knee in the second half of Sunday's victory against Dallas. The injury happened after Edwards had recorded three sacks against the Cowboys' Tony Romo. The NFL Network has reported that Edwards should be OK to start at New Orleans but we don't even know if he'll practice Wednesday when the Vikings begin preparing for the Saints.
Edwards told KFAN's Dan Barreiro that "everything is good," and that, "we're taking it day-to-day and we're just working." Barreiro then asked Edwards if he was optimistic: "No, like I said, just taking it day-to-day. We'll see when it rolls around."
About as far as Edwards would go in revealing how he felt was to say, "there's a little soreness there." We'll know a little more late Wednesday afternoon when the Vikings issue their first injury report of the week. Edwards likely will be limited or not practice at all and that must be reflected on the report.
If Edwards can't go, that means Brian Robison would start at the left end.
