North Dakota women's hockey player and Warroad, Minn., product Lisa Marvin is "really lucky to be alive" after being hit by a car on Monday.
Marvin, cousin to former Gophers standout and Olympian Gigi Marvin, was thrown into the air when a car hit her truck from behind while she was filling it with gas on the side of the road on Gateway Drive in Grand Forks, N.D. She landed on the pavement and suffered extensive damage to her right arm and right knee.
Her father, David Marvin, said she is "really, really, really lucky to be alive," and is facing a long road to recovery the Grand Forks Herald reported. The injuries will require several surgeries.
The driver of the car that hit Marvin's truck, 18-year-old Tristan Johnson, was charged with aggravated reckless driving, a Class A misdemeanor. Another driver, 18-year-old Gannon Miller, was charged with racing.
Gophers women's hockey coach Brad Frost and many others in the hockey community have been wishing Marvin a speedy recovery.
