'Linsanity' arrives at Target Center tonight

After dropping 38 points on the Lakers on Friday, New York Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin will square off against the Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio. But the game won't be on local TV.

What's that they say about the best thing in this hectic 66-game season?

Yes, there's always tomorrow...

For the Wolves, that means Saturday's meeting with the six-day-old sensation Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks at Target Center follows Friday's 104-97 loss to the Mavs in which the Wolves threw the ball all over the place, to the tune of a season-high 28 turnovers.

Here's the game story from Friday night, detailing Rick Adelman's post-game sermon on his team's carelessness with the ball.

And here's a story I did for Saturday's 1A front page about the team's resurgence in the standings, at the box office and what that eventually will mean for ticket buyers.

Of course, you'll only see Saturday's game if you have or buy a ticket, work there, get NBA League Pass or know your way around the Internet because this is another one that won't be televised on local TV.

You can follow it on the radio or on Twitter, although with both Ricky Rubio and Lin on the same court, will Twitter survive?

If 2,500 people walked up last Saturday to make the game against the Rockets an unexpected sellout, how many will arrive this Saturday?

A victory Friday against the Mavs -- and a winning record -- would have increased the buzz, but you got the impression of the opening tap that there was no way the defending NBA champions were going to let the Wolves sweep them for the first since Kevin Garnett was a rookie and there was no way the Wolves were ready to match the Mavericks' resolve.

They tried, rallying from a 17-point, third-quarter deficit with a 16-3 run that ended the third quarter and began the fourth.

But when they got within three points early in the fourth quarter, Jason Kidd, back in the lineup after six games away because of a strained calf, hit a clutch three and the Knicks were off on an 11-2 run of their own that won the game.

Here's a few tidbits about tonight:

* Kevin Love came back from that two-game suspension and delivered a league-leading eighth 30/10 game with 32 points and 12 boards.

Here's what Lamar Odom had to say about him after the game: "He's a little unconventional, as far as how he gets things done. Kevin is a good basketball player and he always has been. You see that just from his outlet passing. The name of the game is not shoot threes or rebound or dunk or high fly. The name of the game is basketball and my man is a good basketball player. I'm glad to see him shine like the way he is."

When asked if Love reminds him of anybody else, Odom said, "It's so hard to compare. He's got a couple of players in him: A little bit of Bird, a little bit of Rodman. He's a mixture of a couple players."

* Michael Beasley, believe it or not, was about the only efficient guy out there for the Wolves.

Yes., he contributed to the turnover nightmare with three of his own, but he also went 4-for-5 on threes and 8 for 11 overall for 20 points.

His plus-16 rating also easily was best among the Wolves.

* The Wolves once again got off to a lousy start, falling behind 8-2 and 20-6.

How much longer do they keep starting Wes Johnson at small forward and keep going with that small backcourt that had either Ricky Rubio or Luke Ridnour trying to guard Vince Carter at times?

The Mavs, in turn, put Shawn Marion on Rubio a good bit and Marion's length and bulk helped slow Rubio until he started to figure out how to counter Marion by the second half.

The question is, who do you go with if you want to play an authentically sized shooting guard. Martell Webster isn't into form, so is Wayne Ellington still your best bet?

* One last fun little fact I tweeted tonight with Lin and the Knicks now in town: Did you know Harvard has produced eight U.S. presidents and three NBA players, and you'll see the only one in the last 58 years on Saturday night at Target Center.

That is, if you're in the building, can find it streamed (illegally) online somewhere, have the League Pass or fly to New York and watch it if you have the right cable system, of course.

That's all for now.

Kent's got Saturday's game and he'll check in and blog all about that Linsanity thing as well as Love's 30-30 game against the Knicks here last season.
