Lightning zapped a McDonald's restaurant early Monday in Eagan and sparked a brief fire on the roof, authorities said.

The flames were first reported to 911 about 3:10 a.m. by someone passing by the fast-food restaurant on Silver Bell Road, just off of Hwy. 13 and a few blocks east of Cedar Avenue, said Fire Chief Mike Scott.

The restaurant was closed at the time, and one firefighter among the 30 called to the scene was treated for heat exhaustion, Scott said.

Along with the slight charbroiling to the roof, damage to the McDonald's included some bricks being knocked off the facade on the northwest corner of the building where the lightning struck, the chief said. The restaurant is open as usual, Scott added.
