Letter of the day: Who saved U.S. from Depression? Tojo and Hitler

I'm not trying to be cynical, but it has been noticeable that the media generally, during the recent stressful days of economic cataclysm, have indicated that President Franklin Roosevelt solved the Great Depression of the 1930s. No offense, folks, but I lived through that depression. My family suffered financial travail because of it. And it is my clear recollection that the Depression continued, despite all of the Roosevelt New Deal edicts and proclamations, until World War II came about and put everybody to work. Frankly, I'd rather have a depression than another war. TED FARRINGTON, RICHFIELD
