Letter of the day: Thanks for the Geek Squad story. Ever watch TV?

March 27, 2010 at 10:12PM

Prior to reading the recent two-page article on the Geek Squad and Robert Stephens ("Geek chic," March 21), I confidently declared to my wife that the obvious parallels from the TV series "Chuck" to Best Buy's Geek Squad would be drawn. While I thought the piece was informative, I was astonished to find my prediction wrong. Seriously, folks, don't you think it the least bit significant that NBC's three-year-old series is a blatant parody of the Geek Squad and Best Buy? In "Chuck," the main character works at the Buy More electronics chain, as the manager of a Nerd Herd division, and drives a Nerd Herd Mobile (knockoff of the Geekmobile) to his "missions." The main difference between the fictional Chuck and the Geeks is that Chuck doubles as an agent for the NSA and the CIA. Even here, though, we see a parallel; the Best Buy Geeks are also called "agents." HAL ROBERTS, Prior Lake
