Letter of the day: Stopping mail service on Mondays makes more sense

Saturdays off for postal employees? No, no, no. It would be much more cost-effective to give them Mondays off. They get many Mondays off already for federal holidays. If ending Saturday service goes through, some weeks no mail will be handled from Friday to Tuesday. This will increase late fees for many people. CANDACE M. ALEXANDER, SHOREVIEW

It's time to turn the postal service over to an independent contractor. The government does not know the meaning of efficiency. Well, wait a minute: If the government pays more than $1,000 for a toilet seat, it might get fleeced here, also. GARY RIESENBERG, MINNEAPOLIS
