The picture of a would-be paddler stepping awkwardly from an upright position into a loaded canoe illustrates a need for another tip to the 10 that Doug Smith listed for travel in the BWCA ("Boundary Waters 101," April 28). Tip No. 11: Be thoroughly familiar with operating a canoe in all water and weather conditions, including how to properly and safely enter and exit a craft that can be quite unstable when used improperly.
