Letter of the day: Question: Can the satirist be a senator?

June 14, 2008 at 10:53PM

The letter writer who labeled as extremists those who brought up DFL Senate candidate Al Franken's past should note that many Democrats, including U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, also criticized his writings. Since when does this make anyone an extremist? Only in the eyes of someone with a preconceived bias.

MIKE GROSSER, WAVERLY

Having just witnessed the incredible enthusiasm at the DFL convention for Al Franken generated by both the "Team Franken" volunteers and delegates on the floor, it is time for Minnesota DFLers to come together and wholly support Al Franken. Shame on Rep. McCollum and other DFL "dignitaries" for having swallowed the last round of Republican propaganda against Al and for clinging to the past.
