Being raised Catholic in the 1950s and 1960s, I accepted everything I was told by the church. But this is 2011. I've grown up and think for myself.
I continue to scratch my head over what I believe to be a simple and just resolution to the priestly vocation dilemma -- women priests ("More are hearing call to serve," Oct. 2).
Catholic schools excel and graduate some of the best and the brightest Christian students. But only half of them are allowed to be priests. Most other religions have dedicated and effective women priests, ministers and rabbis.
Women bring something to the priesthood and other areas of life that is essential and cannot be matched.
The Catholic Church has a big blind spot when it comes to priestly vocations -- it's biblically dated and shamefully gender-specific. A more common-sense and fair approach doesn't seem sensible to the Catholic Boys' Club.
Maybe one day.
