Regarding John Ewoldt's column "Is self-service checking out?" (Oct. 5): Well, I certainly hope so. I never use self-service.
All I can think of is, "There's another job gone." I would (and have) waited in line for a real person who gets a real paycheck and hopefully health benefits to check me out.
When asked, I have politely refused to move to the do-it-yourself machines. I have also given my reasons. Every person I've talked to has agreed with me.
I am happy that the message is getting to management. A completely lame idea anytime, but especially now with this tough job market.
