We thoroughly enjoyed the recent article on St. Paul cyclist Steven (Wolfie) Browender and his quest to bike every block in his hometown (My Minnesota, Nov. 3). However, we take issue with the reference to a "biking season" that the writer apparently believes must end. There are hunting seasons, defined by law, and a variety of competitive sports are seasonal. Biking in Minnesota, however? Not necessarily.
The Land of 10,000 Lakes is also the land of the winter bike commuter. It's the birthplace of the Pugsley (that legendary progenitor of the modern all-terrain, all-weather bicycle). Winter biking was one of the factors cited in Bicycling magazine's decision to name a Minnesota city the top biking venue in the United States.
What I'm trying to say is that biking is always in season here. Two last words on the matter: studded tires.
