Letter of the day: Miners had food and tools, but most important, they had faith

October 14, 2010 at 11:51PM

It is with gladness that I read about the amazing rescue of the 33 Chilean miners. Not only was the rescue itself amazing, but so is the health and spirit of the miners. I think 69 days in the darkness of a mine would jar anyone's nerves. These miners had, along with special food and communications tools, something else down there -- faith. A faith that they would survive and be rescued. Sometimes even in the darkest of situations, faith in God can make a person's world bright again. Faith brought them out of the darkness and into the arms of loved ones. Faith kept them well and safe as much as possible, and faith helped us get through the ordeal, too. Welcome back, fellows. We are all breathing a sigh of relief. Hopefully we are thanking God for your safe return from the world of darkness into the world of light. PETER CLARK, ROSEVILLE
