The irony is palpable in the carefully crafted statement opposing the so-called marriage amendment by the leaders of some of our big law firms (Short Takes, July 13). I completely agree with their opposition to this misguided and destructive constitutional amendment. Hubert Humphrey, who championed the cause of civil rights against all odds in 1948, would be appalled that such a proposal would even be considered in his state 60 years later. Yet, the fact these leaders of high-powered and big-money law firms are all men speaks volumes. Would I be out of line to worry that they also are all white guys? I hope I'm wrong. This monoculture of law firm leaders is not lost on many of their female colleagues. And it should not be lost on the rest of us. Hey, Power Dudes, what's up with that? Maybe respecting diversity is also an in-house issue.
