The 20th anniversary celebration of the Steger Antarctic Expedition was to be held at Hamline University on Saturday -- the day of the blizzard.
All six members of the expedition were here, from six countries.
Their expedition had lasted 220 days, in weather as cold as 50 below zero, with winds up to 100 miles per hour. The anniversary celebration was canceled due to winter weather.
Ah, the old Minnesota we knew and loved.
