Letter of the day: Guthrie's latest 'A Christmas Carol': Dickens would approve

November 24, 2010 at 11:52PM

While visiting family in Edina, we attended the opening preview of "A Christmas Carol" at the Guthrie Theater. Despite its popularity, I have often found performances of this classic a little dark and depressing. But this was not the case -- this production must be what Dickens intended. There was great energy, clever dialogue and wonderful staging. Scrooge is played to perfection, and the image of the Ghost of Christmas Future is a touch of genius. It seems that every time we visit from our home in Washington, we find a new treat in Minneapolis.DICK TWISS, YAKIMA, WASH.
