THE FLAWED LOGIC OF AUSTERITY

For the last few months, I've heard legislators and members of Congress argue that just as families are being hurt by the recession and have to "tighten their belts," governments must do the same.

Can we please move past this flawed logic? I don't want my doctor to announce that because I'm sick, she's going to get sick, too.

We elect our state and federal representatives to provide support in times of need -- not to mimic our circumstances.
