Letter of the day: District attorney's decision should restore public faith

January 22, 2010 at 12:46AM

The introduction to a popular '60s show about a district attorney was the following: "And it shall be my duty as district attorney not only to prosecute to the full limit of the law all crimes perpetrated against the people in this county, but to defend with equal vigor the rights and privileges of all our citizens." Marlene Senechal, head of the Hennepin County attorney's violent crimes division, recently dropped murder charges against a defendant upon discovering new evidence. She was quoted as saying "Our job is to get justice, not just get convictions." Senechal demonstrated the high level of integrity we expect from all of our public law enforcement officials. Thank you, Ms. Senechal. ROBERT QUAM, GREENWOOD
