Outdoors columnist Doug Smith recently wrote about the state's Department of Natural Resources confiscating firearms and archery equipment, as well as hunters losing their hunting privileges for baiting deer ("Officials say stiffer penalties haven't deterred deer baiting," Dec. 16).
Those of us who have watched the DNR institute fish and wildlife laws over the years chuckle at this. We've seen fishing go from a relaxing day in the boat with a line over the side to people frantically speeding around lakes watching video screens and looking for the fish.
Come on! Maybe the DNR should allow video cameras for deer hunters next year. With the advent of all those small helicopters being sold in stores for Christmas, it would be easy.
