Letter of the day (Dec. 22): Nicholas David

Several thousand people jammed next to the stage at the Mall of America amusement park to hear Nicholas David Mrozinski, one of the top 4 finalists on NBC's hit show, "The Voice." Mrozinski, from Eagan MN., sang two songs, wowing the audience on 12/6/12.

Minnesotans, please know that many of us who watched "The Voice," were disappointed that your own Nicholas David came in third place, rather than first ("Nick David finishes third on 'The Voice,'" Dec. 19). David is a rare and soulful talent whom Americans wholeheartedly embraced. The first- and second-place winners -- Cassadee Pope and Terry McDermott -- are talented, but they're cut from the same cloth as many singers already on the charts. David, on the other hand, is on a different level. Every time he sang an R&B ballad or other soulful tune, I felt inspired. Even though he didn't win, I believe he will go far as a musician. He's just too unique and too gifted for that not to happen.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
