Letter of the day: Critical of Borton? Look at the players she's produced

Patrick Reusse is certainly entitled to his opinion about Gophers women's basketball, but he really should follow the first rule of writing -- write about things you know. Regarding the performances of Coach Pam Borton's seniors: In their senior seasons, Lindsay Whalen and Kadidja Andersson led the team to the Final Four. Whalen was the fourth pick in the WNBA draft, and Andersson has had a successful European basketball career. Janel McCarville led the team to the Sweet Sixteen and was the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft and is one of the top players in the league. Kelly Roysland led a depleted squad to a successful season despite missing several games with a broken collarbone. She is now an assistant coach with North Dakota State University. Leslie Knight had her greatest season as a senior and is now playing basketball in Switzerland. Emmy Fox may have struggled this season, but she played with heart and determination, and she and fellow senior Kay Sylva led this year's team to a 20-win season and a trip to the second round of the NCAA tournament after being picked to finish in the bottom half of the Big 10. So, Mr. Reusse, maybe next season you should come to a few games and actually get to know this team. SUE CORBIN, MINNEAPOLIS
