Recent comments by both Republicans and Democrats regarding "stay at home" vs. "working" mothers signify to me that neither party understands the reality of American life.

The insinuation that a woman's choice to work inside or outside of the home is solely based on financial and/or political inclinations is mistaken.

After several years as both a stay-at-home mother and a working-outside-the-home mother, I know that each woman in my position makes decisions based on very individual scenarios. General statements about these decisions are truly irresponsible.

It disgusts me that the issue is being politicized to the point that some people even imply that one choice is better or worse or more "work" than another.

Would one person like to stay home with four kids under the age of 6? Would another woman want to work two low-paying service jobs in order to pay her rent? The answer to both could be yes or no.

Life does not always present clear, pleasant options.
