Letter of the day: America's young adults won't have a say if they fail to vote

November 6, 2010 at 4:01AM

It made me sick to read about the abysmally low voter-turnout rate for young voters this election cycle. My message for America's 18- to 30-year-olds is this: Whether you lean left or right, you must vote if you want a say in your future. Young people seem to have forgotten -- assuming they were ever taught in school -- that the nation passed a constitutional amendment lowering the voting age to 18 because draftees fresh out of high school were being butchered in Vietnam. The country thought it only fair to allow them a say in the matter.CHARLES HOROWITZ, HOPKINS

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
