Strong winds have buffeted the Southwest the past two days, whipping up dust and causing some damage. The winds on Tuesday drove a 70-foot-long ship into the San Mateo Bridge south of San Francisco.

Winds will be less of a threat across the Southwest today. High pressure replacing a potent storm will promote the calmer conditions. Temperatures will also nicely moderate over the West Coast.

There will still be a few areas that experience gusty winds today. Winds will howl at times over central Nevada, including Tonopah. Winds will also turn gusty this afternoon over New Mexico and western Texas. The wildfire danger will remain elevated.
