Less Wind for the Southwest

Strong winds have buffeted the Southwest the past two days, whipping up dustand causing some damage. The winds on Tuesday drove a 70-foot-long ship intothe San Mateo Bridge south of San Francisco.Winds will be less of a threat across the Southwest today. High pressurereplacing a potent storm will promote the calmer conditions. Temperatures willalso nicely moderate over the West Coast.

There will still be a few areas that experience gusty winds today. Windswill howl at times over central Nevada, including Tonopah. Winds will also turngusty this afternoon over New Mexico and western Texas. The wildfire dangerwill remain elevated.
