Lawyer suspended a second time

A West St. Paul lawyer was suspended by the state Supreme Court for 60 days on Wednesday for practicing law during a previous license suspension. Stephen V. Grigsby was suspended for 60 days in 2009 for failing to report income on tax returns and filing those returns years late. Then Grigsby "practiced law while suspended by writing [a] brief" and forging a client's signature on a document, the court said. The court rejected a request by the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility for a longer suspension, in part because the office took 727 days to file a petition with the court. Since Grigsby "did not seek readmission while under investigation ... he has effectively been suspended ... for over three years," the court said. Read the current suspension decision here.
