Actor-playwright Sun Mee Chomet.
Pillsbury House Theatre's "Late Night" series of experimental, genre-crossing performances is not as well-known as Walker Art Center's Out There festival. And Pillsbury House's program has a different focus, giving artists an opportunity to showcase new works.
But both cater to adventurous audiences looking for edgy work.
Curators Laurie Carlos and E.G. Bailey have booked the diverse series at Pillsbury House Theatre for 14 years. This weekend, they have lined up a quintet that includes actor-playwright Sun Mee Chomet, fresh off her role as Antigone in the Guthrie's "Burial at Thebes," playwright Lisa Brimmer, poet-performer Ellen Marie Hinchcliffe and performance artists Juma B. Essie and Julia Elizabeth Babb.
All will share new work that encompasses straight theater, dance, music and spoken word.
The $10 admission price includes a pre-show buffet at the theater, starting at 8 p.m. Showtime is at 9 p.m. Sat., Pillsbury House Theatre, 3501 Chicago Av. S., Mpls. 612-825-0459.
