LAS VEGAS — A spokeswoman for Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort says the destination won't be opening this weekend as had been hoped.

Veronica Kawka said Thursday that resort officials are waiting for colder temperatures to bring snow to the mountainside about an hour northwest of Las Vegas.

She says the resort does have more water at the ready for man-made snowmaking thanks to recent rainfall.

Weather conditions have been warmer than usual for the resort.

In years past, it's opened as early as Thanksgiving weekend.

Las Vegas Ski has borrowed extra snow-making machines from neighboring resorts in Utah.

A new chair lift and snow tubing course will debut this season once the resort opens to winter sports enthusiasts.
