Lakeville City Council Member Wendy Wulff will be resigning to represent District 16, which covers much of Dakota County, on the Metropolitan Council.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty's office announced her appointment to the board of the metro-wide planning agency on Thursday. The seat has been vacant since Brian McDaniel of Apple Valley resigned Jan. 1.

Wulff said she will resign from the Lakeville council at its Monday night meeting and start at the Met Council on Tuesday. The Lakeville council will appoint her successor.

Wulff is a self-employed Web designer and has been on the Lakeville council since 2003. She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota and served in the United States Army Reserve for nearly 20 years.

Sixteen people applied for the position, and two subsequently withdrew. The other finalists for the District 16 seat were Christy Jo Fogarty, of the Farmington City Council, and Mary Riley of Rosemount.
